[Also in Division C3] A laminate comprises a plurality of laminµ, at least one of which is cellulosic, the laminae being adhesively bonded together with a dried adhesive film which, when applied to the cellulosic lamina comprises a mixture, in an aqueous medium, of an amylose product and a peptizing agent. An amylose product is defined as the amylose fraction of whole starch, or whole starch containing at least 55% amylose. Specified peptizing agents are alkali metal hydroxides and salts, alkaline earth metal salts, transition element salts, formaldehyde thiourea, sodium salicylate and chloral hydrate. The laminae may be entirely cellulosic, e.g. paper and paperboard, or may contain non-cellulosic laminµ, e.g. metallic foil. The adhesive may incorporate fillers. Examples describe the preparation of 2-ply laminates of No. 42 Kraft Stock by applying a wet film of adhesive composition to one lamina, placing the other lamina in contact, and air drying.</p> |
