The system consists of a guide mast (11), normally positioned vertically, for a carriage equipped with a drilling head (1) and drive motor, either for rotary or rotary/percussion drilling. The head has two parallel shafts - a right hand one (3) for rotary drilling and a left-hand one (4) for rotation/percussion - which can be moved perpendicular to the shaft and along the carriage, so that either of the two shafts is set in line with the axis of the mast. The two shafts are linked kinematically, and the drive motor (5) can be switched to rotate in either direction. The movement of the drilling head (1) relative to the guide carriage is carried out by means of a hydraulic cylinder or a pneumatic drive with manual control, situated between the head and the carriage. The drive motor turns one of the two shafts directly, and the other through a chain and sprocket mechanism (6 - 8).
