A universal joint flexible disc is formed with spaced bosses, each of which surrounds one of a series of bolt holes through the disc, is elongated radially of the disc and extends substantially right across the radial width of the disc. In one form, a flexible disc 9, Fig. 3, is formed with segment-shaped bosses 14 surrounding bushes 13 moulded into the disc to receive bolts 10, Fig. 2, by which alternate bosses are secured to spiders 7, 8 on coupling members 3, 5. Segmental spacings 15 separate the bosses 14, for maximum flexibility of the disc. The segment-shaped bosses 14 may be smaller, as shown in Fig. 4, or may be replaced by partelliptically shaped bosses 23. Each boss is fitted with a metal cap 16, Figs. 2, 5, through which the bushes 13 pass. The caps may be formed with turned-back lips 17a. Alternatively, caps 16<1> of rigid plastics may be used. The flexible disc 9 may be moulded from polyurethane or from a compound based on that material. |
