Diamond-based cutting tool with good breaking strength

A cutting tool produced from diamond-based material sintered at ultra-high pressure has excellent breaking strength and contains 0.05-13 wt.% BaO and/or MgO and opt. 0.02-5 wt.% CaO, rest diamond. The diamond forms the matrix and the BaO, MgO and/or CaO is dispersed in its pores. The material has a density of 96-99.5% of the theoretical density. Also claimed is a method of making the tool.
