The cable is constituted by an elongate body (10) of thermoplastic material with or without a central reinforcing core (12). The body (10) is generally cylindrical and has at least one rack in the form of a set of teeth (14), the teeth (16) of which are stamped in its surface and have cross-sections which are uniform along chords of the cylinder. The cable is preferably manufactured by a method according to which a semi-finished product of thermoplastic material is extruded and is then shaped continuously by hot deformation.
