The invention starts from the adjustment of an axial backlash by means of a wedge slide system (4; 5) with an adjusting wedge (4) resting axially against the rotor shaft (3) under the pressure of a helical spring (6). To reduce wear the wedge faces of the wedge slide system (4; 5) in sliding contact are, according to the invention, provided with wave peaks and wave troughs such that the maximum permissible axial backlash corresponds to the relative displacement of the wedge faces between at least two successive wave-trough positions of the adjusting wedge (4).
