A photographic light-sensitive silver halide emulsion desensitized to blue and U. V. light has a substantially unhardened colloid binder and contains a colloid-tanning silver halide developing agent and a desensitizing amount of a compound of the formula:- where R is an alkyl, carboxyalkyl or sulphoalkyl group of up to 10 carbons, or a phenacyl group, and X is either a separate anion or, when R is sulphoalkyl, represents the negative charge of said group. The emulsion may or may not be optically sensitized and may be coated on to glass, paper or a fabric such as tea bag stock or silk screen stock. The coated element may be used in the colloid transfer process by imagewise exposing, developing with aqueous alkali and contacting with a receiving sheet, or, when a fabric support is used, the hardened colliod remaining after the development step may be washed off with hot water to form a stencil. |
