A yarn feeding device which can be switched between positive feed and intermittent feed comprises a yarn guide element (31) associated with the lower edge (30) of a storage drum (3) and which can be displaced by means of an electromagnetic setting member (32) selectively to a first position (solid lines) allowing the intermittent feed and a second position (broken lines) producing the positive feed. The element (31) may be pin-like as shown or formed as a hook pivoted by means of a rotary electromagnet or it may comprise an eye which is displace able along an inclined path between its first position on the drum axis (8) and its second position adjacent the drum edge (30).
