In a process for firing formed ceramic bodies, the formed bodies are conveyed through a heating zone, a firing zone and a cooling zone, with the formed bodies in the heating zone moving in the opposite direction to formed bodies of a cooling zone that is situated parallel to the heating zone and that forms a common circuit with the heating zone. To save energy and to exploit optimally the naturally occuring transmission of heat, the formed bodies are transported through the zones layered in multiple, mutually parallel disk-wall stacks (21), such that a disk-wall stack (21) conveyed in one direction through the heating and cooling zone travels closely adjacent to a disk-wall stack (21) conveyed in the opposite direction, thus entailing intensive radiant heat transmission. |
