LIQUID CRYSTAL ORIENTED FILM AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal oriented film with which good orientation of liquid crystal is obtd. without sticking or deposition of dust and to obtain a liquid crystal display element by decreasing the polar component of the surface energy. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal oriented film has <=12 (erg.cm<-2>) polar component of the surface energy (tension) before or after rubbing. The liquid crystal display element uses this oriented film and especially a nematic liquid crystal mixture. It is preferable that the liquid crystal oriented film is a polyimide resin comprising a specified tetracarboxylic anhydride and specified diamine and has <=12 (erg.cm<-2>) polar component of the surface energy.
