PURPOSE:To provide a semiconductor optical element device capable of automatically adjusting the relative positions of a semiconductor optical element and an optical fiber and optically coupling the element and the fiber. CONSTITUTION:This semiconductor optical element device consists of a member 1 for positioning the optical fiber in common use for mounting the semiconductor optical element having electrode pads 7 and a optical fiber positioning key 8 formed in a prescribed position from these electrode pads 7 and the semiconductor element 3. The semiconductor element 2 is connected by solder bumps to the electrode pads 7 and the optical fiber 4 is positioned by the optical fiber positioning key 8.
