Braking force regulator for motor vehicle

The braking force regulator has a main cylinder (12) which creates a braking pressure when an operating element (10), e.g. a brake pedal, is engaged. A brake (20,21,22,23) is fixed to a vehicle wheel (FR,FL,RR,RL) and connected to the main cylinder by a cable (14,15). A pressure regulation chamber is connected to the brake. The capacity of this chamber can be varied by a displacement adjustment unit (30). A control device (10a,19a,CPU) operates the displacement adjustment unit to supply the brake with brake pressure when the main cylinder does not generate the appropriate brake pressure. The CPU receives signals from sensors to detect when, for example, the vehicle is too near another vehicle, the wheels have locked, or the vehicle is travelling too quickly.
