Novel calcium di-orotate (I) is prepared by treating an aqueous solution of orotic acid with a soluble calcium salt in an aqueous solution in stoichiometric amount. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise the novel salt together with a suitable excipient for enteral, parenteral or topical application and are active in the treatment of over weight, inflammatory diseases, arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis, auto-immune diseases, and osteoporotic decalcification.
