1,179,270. Stacking sheets. MOELLER & NEUMANN G.m.b.H. 19 Oct., 1967 [22 Oct., 1966], No. 47730/67. Heading B8R. An apparatus for stacking metal sheets incorporates both an air flow support and mechanical supporting means for sheets during delivery to the stack. Fig. 1 is a cross-section and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section of a stacking apparatus which includes beams I and 2 having smooth side walls 1a, 2a whose relative spacing can be altered, and a vertically movable stacking table 6 which is comprised of pairs of columns 6a supporting cross-beams 6c which in turn carry wooden boards 6b to form an interrupted platform. The first metal sheet 3 is delivered in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 2, by feed rollers 10, 11 and conveyed over the stack by means of support rollers 4, 5 which extend through openings in the side walls 1a, 2a; further support is provided by an air blast from nozzles 13 extending through grooves in roller 11. The rollers 4, 5 are then retracted by hydraulic mechanism 4a, 5a, and the sheet 3 descends slowly on to the table 6; subsequent sheets are not supported by rollers 4, 5 but are cushioned only by the air flow from nozzles 13, the side walls 1a, 2a and the uppermost sheet of the stack forming a closed trough so that a strong laminar flow can be produced. The table 6 moves downwards as the stack grows until a completed stack is removed by conveyer 9.
