PURPOSE:To provide an ink jet recorder having a structure which has no possibility of damaging a cap member on a discharge port forming surface of a recording head when a head cartridge is mounted on or dismounted from the carriage. CONSTITUTION:When a recording head replacing cover 17 to be opened or closed in case where an ink jet recorder or a head cartridge is mounted on or dismounted from a carriage, a recovery unit slider 83 is moved in a direction of separating from a head cartridge 20 by operations of links 81, 82 connected to the other end of the cover, and a cap 53 on a recovery unit 13 fixed thereto is separated from a discharge port of the head. When the cover is closed, the unit 13 approaches the cartridge 20 side, and the cap 52 caps the port of the head without deviating. |
