<p>A method for inerting residues from the incineration of industrial or household waste or metal hydroxide sludge, whereby the toxic metals contained therein are stabilised and thus immobilised over the long term. The method includes the steps of heating a mixture containing the waste to be processed and one or more nucleating agents containing ferrous compounds in particular. Heating is performed under conditions such that a liquid-phase mixture also known as a molten mixture or melt is obtained, wherein at least 5 % of the Fe2O3 oxides are converted into FeO oxides. The method further comprises the steps of controllably cooling the melt to give a solid in which the heavy metals contained in the processed waste are included within crystalline structures, and recovering the resulting solid. The heating step may include a phase of stabilising the mixture at a temperature which enables the complete liquefaction of the mixture to be processed.</p> |
