<p>A controlled release capsule for delivering a unit dosage of an active material to a patient at a predetermined time following administration comprises a male hydrogel plug (2) engaged in the neck (4) of a female body (6). The unit dosage in solid form is attached as a tablet (9) to the inside end of the plug, or is provided in a recess (12) therein. When the device is placed in an aqueous environment (e.g. the gastrointestinal tract), the hydrogel plug swells and disengages after a predetermined time carrying with it the unit dosage, which is thus effectively delivered from within the female body and dissolution in the aqueous liquid is promoted.</p> |
