PURPOSE:To obtain the subject resin excellent in heat resistance, etc., at a high efficiency by subjecting a specific phenol monomer to oxidative coupling in a solvent in the presence of an enzyme catalyst while adding a peroxide in portions to the reaction system. CONSTITUTION:This heat-resistant high-mol.-wt. phenol resin with a mol.wt. of 15,000-1,000,000 is obtd. by subjecting at least one phenol monomer of the formula (wherein R1, R2, and R3 are each H, a hydrocarbon group, amino, hydroxyl, nitro, carboxyl, halogen, etc.) (e.g. cresol) to oxidative coupling in a solvent in the presence of an enzyme catalyst (e.g. peroxidase obtd. from horseradish) while adding a peroxide in portions to the reactional system. Pref. the peroxide is added in such a manner that the amt. of each portion of the peroxide added is 5-30mol% of the total amt. of the monomer, the time from one protion to the next protion is 10-60min, and the total amt. of the peroxide added is 5-300mol% of the total amt. of the monomer. |
