<p>PURPOSE:To remove bluish white smoke, exhaust odor and particulates of an engine by forming such structure that a filter carries catalytic grain for accelerating oxidation and that a control means commands current application to a heater only for the specified time after the start of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A filter 2 carries catalytic grain for accelerating the burning of particulates, and a heater 9 is disposed separably from the filter 2 and provided with bare heating wire 92 having numerous bent parts 920 formed into U-shape in the axial direction of the filter 2. Upon reaching an idle rotation area for the specified time after the start of an engine, the catalyst of the filter 2 is rapidly heated by applying a current to the heater 9. The catalytic grain of the filter 2 is thereby activated to oxidize and decompose bluish white smoke in exhaust gas and exhaust odor, thus removing particulates.</p> |
