A rotary heat exchanger for recovering heat from the exhaust air of, in particular, flue gas desulphurisation plants is described. The rotary heat exchanger has heat exchanger plates which are arranged as the rotor, and which absorb the heat from the warm gas flow and release it to the colder gas flow. The heat exchanger plates (5) consist of carbon-fibre-reinforced high-performance thermoplastics. The high-performance thermoplastics are: polyaryl ketone, polybenzimidazole. <IMAGE>
