PURPOSE:To damp the low frequency noise components of rotational fluctuation so as to detect the combustion state correctly by computing the deviation quantity between the latest average value of engine speed and the average value in one ignition cycle before, and averaging this deviation quantity on the basis of the cycle corresponding to an ignition cycle. CONSTITUTION:An ECU 5 constituting a combustion state detecting device controls the fuel injection valve 6 and spark plug 14 of an internal combustion engine 1 on the basis of various detection signals from various sensors 4, 8, 9-13 for detecting the operating state of the internal combustion engine 1, that is, detects the combustion state by averaging the engine speed, detected by at least the crank angle sensor 11, in a cycle corresponding to one rotation of a crankshaft. At this time, the ECU 5 computes the deviation quantity between the computed engine speed average value and the average value computed in a specified ignition cycle before the time of computing the above-mentioned engine speed average value. The ECU 5 then averages the computed deviation quantity on the basis of the cycle corresponding to an ignition cycle and detects the combustion state on the basis of the averaged deviation quantity. |
