The flowmeter has a detector (5) fitted slidably in a cylindrical chamber (3a) in a meter boay (2). Thedetector (5) has introduction passages (17) and discharge passages (13) at a predetermined angle (theta) so that a fluid flows into and out of the detector through the passages (17,13). A mass flow rate is determined by detecting a force generated by a momentum change of the fluid applied to the detector, using a load cell (6) which gives a voltage or current output.
