CLOTH HAVING EXCELLENT WIPING PERFORMANCE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain a cloth exhibiting a sharp-edge effect to the utmost limit and having excellent wiping performance by weaving a cloth with a conjugate fiber capable of forming ultrafine fibers having fan-shaped cross-sections and treating the cloth with an alkali to divide the fiber into the fan-shaped ultrafine fibers and developing a specific twist on the ultrafine fiber. CONSTITUTION:A ternary conjugate fiber to be used in the objective cloth is composed of (A) a thermoplastic polymer 1 consisting of polyethylene terephthalate, (B) a thermoplastic polymer 2 having thermal shrinkage different from the component 1 and consisting of polyethylene terephthalate copolymerized with isophthalic acid and (C) an easily alkali-soluble component 3 obtained by blending the above copolymerized polyester with a polyethylene glycol. The components 1 and 2 have fan-shaped cross-sections with a central angle of 20-120 deg. and are bonded with each other by contacting the fan-shaped cross-sections with each other or bonded in a state divided into two at the central angle side and the circumferential side of the fan-shaped cross-section. The alkali-soluble component 3 is placed between the above fan-shaped cross-sections. A cloth woven by using the above fiber as a part of the warp or weft is treated with an alkali at <=60 deg.C and heat-treated to obtain the objective cloth containing fibers having a single fiber fineness of 0.1-2 de and axially twisted g >=1/4 turns on the part having floating warp or weft.
