PURPOSE:To produce a titanfum carbonitride sintered compact excellent in strength, toughness and electric conductivity by press-compacting a powdery mixture of titanium carbonitride with stainless steel and subjecting the resulting compact to pressureless firing at a specified high temp. CONSTITUTION:A blend of 70-95wt.% powder of titanium carbonitride [Ti(CxN1-x)] with 5-30wt.% powder of stainless steel as a sintering aid is wet-mixed in a liq. prepd. by adding stearic acid and paraffin to a toluene soln. to prepare a slurry. This slurry is dried and granulated and the resulting granules are compacted by cold isostatic pressing. The resulting compact is subjected to pressureless firing at a high temp. of 1,400-1,700 deg.C for about 1hr in an atmosphere of gaseous hydrogen or nitrogen to obtain the objective titanium carbonitride ceramic sintered member having high strength and high toughness and excellent in electric conductivity. |
