PURPOSE:To improve the high-speed responsiveness with a voltage by forming the liquid crystal oriented films formed on the surfaces of substrates of high polymer films having a bipole moment with a rigid structure coupled via a surface treating agent. CONSTITUTION:A substrate formed by coupling the liquid crystal oriented film 4 consisting of a high polymer (PBLG) having a rigid structure and the bipole moment via a surface treated layer 3 on the surface of the ITO electrode 2 on a glass substrate 1 is used as a first substrate. A substrate constituted by forming a polyimide liquid crystal oriented film 7 not subjected to a rubbing treatment on the surface of a glass substrate 5 with the ITO electrode 6 is used as a second substrate. The substrates are disposed and sealed to face each other via spacers 8 in such a manner that a cell thickness of about 10mum is attained. Liquid crystal molecules are thereafter injected and encapsulated therebetween and are slowly cooled after heating, by which the liquid crystal 9 is oriented. A power source 10 is connected to the ITO electrode 2 and the ITO electrode 6 and a prescribed voltage is applied between both, by which the high-speed responsiveness with the applied voltage is realized. |
