PURPOSE:To provide the material having a high water shielding property and more particularly a high water shielding property, coating buffer property and nonseptic property in the case of a small number of coated fibers, excellent cable formability at the time of working to connect the cables and producing the cables and high water shielding performance and the cable formed by using the same. CONSTITUTION:This material 1 for water shielding is formed by having a coating layer contg. highly water absorptive polymer particles 4, of which the water absorption magnification with artificial sea water is >=5 times by an MB method, and a rubber binder on a solid substrate 3 or this material for water shielding is formed by sandwiching this coating layer 2 in the solid substrates 3. The material having the high water shielding performance is obtd. by contg. the highly water absorptive polymer particles, of which the gel strength at the time of 5wt.% in the artificial sea water is <=10,000dyne/cm<2> at <=15wt.% in the highly water absorptive polymer particles. This cable is formed by using the material having such high water shielding performance. |
