OUTLINE FONT PLOTTING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To provide an outline font plotting device which can plot an outline font at a high speed when compressed data on the outline font stored in a font ROM are expanded and raster-converted without depending upon the process performance of a CPU. CONSTITUTION:A vector data control part 1 performs an expanding process wherein a character code and font information inputted from a CPU 2 are analyzed and character data to be plotted are taken out of the outline font ROM 3 storing vector data forming the character in a compressed state. An OFP 4 which is formed into a dedicated LSI, is used as a means for the raster conversion of the vector data after the expanding process to convert the data into plotting parameters of the OFP 4 and to write the data in the OFP 4. The OFP 4 performs the raster conversion of the plotting parameters outputted from the vector data control part 1 and stores the result in a bit map memory 5 as image data. A CPU 2, a vector data control part 1, and a bit map memory are connected to a system bus 6 through a bus switch for switching the bus, and the CPU 2 and OFP 4 share the bit map memory 5.
