The invention concerns a device (1) which uses warm air for drying articles lying on a moving conveyor belt (2), in particular the gummed adhesive strips on envelopes, and is provided with a housing (3) which is at a constant distance from the conveyor belt (2) and has aprons (4) along both its long sides and a drying channel (level III) which is formed by a floor (23) of the housing (3), the aprons (4) and the conveyor belt (2) and through which a drying air stream is led in the direction opposite to the transport direction (X) of the conveyor belt (2). Preheating of the air can be at least largely dispensed with and drying can be effected at a low temperature using less energy and a constant air flow. The housing (3) is designed as a heat exchanger in such a way as to have at least two levels (I, II; III) through which the air stream flows. One of these levels is provided in the region of an end face (5 or 7) of the housing with a gas inlet (6) and another level on a face end (5, 7) of the housing is provided with a gas outlet (8). Means of heat exchange are provided along the levels and, at least in the region of a face end (5, 7) of the housing, means of diverting the stream from one level to the next. |
