The invention relates to a connecting element for connecting a metal rail in the form of a load-bearing profile of a suspended ceiling to a metal rail which runs perpendicularly thereto and belongs to a counter-profile, the metal rails being defined as CD-profiles, and the connecting element being designed such that, being U-shaped in cross-section, it engages around the open underside of the edge profile and, by means of lateral extensions of the U-legs, can be latched in behind the border beads of the load-bearing profile located thereabove, elastic expansion of said load-bearing profile taking place in the process. In order further to improve the load-bearing strength, in the case of said connecting element, with simple handling, it is provided that lateral extensions (4) engage in a positively locking manner into the border beads (14) and there be formed, on the U-base (2), resilient tongs (9) whose elastic deflection permits the latching-in operation of the extensions (4) and which force the extensions (4), after the latching-in operation, into the latched position. <IMAGE>
