The protective helmet has an air duct (22) within the shell (2) and it has an inlet (14) towards the rear of the shell. Outlets (20) are associated with the front part of the shell. These are directed on to the internal surface of the visor (30) and towards some of the marginal edges. A filter (16) is associated with the duct (22). An air mover (24) introduces the air to the duct.
