An apparatus for applying a casing to a stuffing horn includes a shuttle with a through bore and a vacuum manifold which causes the casing to expand into the bore, to allow the shuttle and casing end to be advanced on to the horn. When vacuum is released, the casing is released from its gripping relation with the shuttle bore and grips the horn. This permits the shuttle to be withdrawn sufficiently for the casing to be locked to the horn.
