PURPOSE:To obtain the compound in a high yield and selectivity in an economically advantegeous way by oxidative dehydrogenation of an amino alcohol in the presence of a combination of water and an alkali (alkaline earth) metal hydroxide using a catalyst composed of (1) copper and (2) Bi, Sn, Sb, Pb and/or Ge. CONSTITUTION:The aminocarboxylic acid salt can be obtained by oxidative dehydrogenation of an amino alcohol of the formula (R<1> and R<2> are each H, hydroxyethyl, 1-18C alkyl, 2-3C aminoalkyl or 2-3C hydroxyalkylaminoalkyl) in the presence of water, an alkali (alkaline earth) metal hydroxide and a catalyst. In this reaction, the catalyst used is a combination of copper and at least one kind of element selected from bismuth, tin, antimony, lead and germanium (e.g. a combination of bismuth and copper). It is preferable that the Bi to Ge be at 20-5000ppm based on the copper. The aminocarboxylic acid salt is useful as a raw material for agrochemicals and medicine, a chelating agent, a food additive, etc. |
