The present invention relates to a process for the long-term preservation of animal and human tissues and organs in a soft state in aqueous ethanol solution, which is characterised in that the ethanol concentration is less than 30 % v/v, preferably essentially 20 % v/v. It also relates to animal and human tissue and organs which have been prepared by the above method and to their use in training surgeons and testing surgical instruments.
