PURPOSE:To obtain a compact and light-weight unit that can be charged through a household power supply. CONSTITUTION:A first drive winding 5 for the first electric rotating machine 3 for the first drive mechanism 2 and the second drive winding 11 for the second electric rotating machine 9 for the second drive mechanism 8 are installed in a stator. The rotor of the first electric rotating machine 3 and the rotor of the second electric rotating machine 9 are fixed to a rotary shaft 19. The second electric rotating machine 9 is driven with a battery 17. The second controller 12, which rotates the second electric rotating machine 9 with a charging power supply 18, is connected to the second drive winding 11. The second controller 12 is provided with a mechanism 14 to switch between the battery 17 and power supply 18. A rotating machine drive unit 1 has the first controller 6 connected between the battery 17 and the first rotating machine 3. The battery 17 drives the first rotating machine 3, which is controlled by the first controller 6 to work as a generator to charge the battery 17. The unit 1 is mounted on an electric vehicle as a power to drive the wheels.
