PURPOSE: To design and realize a nonlinear noise filtering device by incorporating a compression processor, a decompression processor, and an optimization processor in the filtering device. CONSTITUTION: Sampled noise-containing input signals S(N, f) stored in a memory 33 are sent to a compression processor 34 as input signals. The processor 23 selects a prescribed loss or error tolerance parameterεand outputs the parameter of the compression expression D(S,ε) of the signal S. An optimization processor 35 is connected to the processor 34 so as to send the loss or parameterεto the processor 34, to instruct the processor 34 to read out a sampled input value from the memory 33, and to generate the parameter. The processor 35 merely sends a compression function parameter from the processor 34 to a decompression processor 36 upon determination a knee-pointε* and the processor 36 reconstitutes an approximate function (g) based on the parameters D(S,ε*). The processor generates a filtered output signal (g) by synthesizing and combining various frequency components.
