Tray control method of DCC (digital compact cassette) player opens automatically the tray when there is no cassette in the tray on power-on. The method comprises the steps of determining the presence of cassette in tray and if present, displaying the list; if not present, opening the tray and closing it when the tape is inserted; if the tape is not inserted withing the given time interval, closing the tray and displaying that there is no tape.
