<p>Optical amplifier comprising a waveguiding component which has a layered structure comprising a core layer (18) and two cladding layers (7, 10) sandwiching the core layer and having a refractive index lower than that of the core layer, wherein the core layer (18) and at least one of the cladding layers (7) comprise an optical ploymer material, and one cladding layer (10) comprises an optical glass doped with a laser active substance that will provide stimulated emission upon suitable excitation. The core layer may be an NLO polymer, and preferably comprises a polymer in which a waveguide pattern may be induced by means of irradiation.</p> |
