<p>PURPOSE: To give a steep transmission-voltage characteristic free from hysteresis and to enable direct switching between on-state and off-state by including a cholesteric liquid crystal material layer between two cell wall parts, providing the cell wall parts with an electrode structure and simultaneously aligning liquid crystal molecules. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal device has a liquid crystal cell 1 formed of the choresteric liquid crystal material 2 inserted between two glass slides 3, 4. A spacer ring 5 is designed to part these wall parts by 6μm, for instance. Further, the accurate wall-to-wall distance is maintained by dispersing a large number of short and 6μm sized-glass fibers into the liquid crystal material. For instance, horizontal electrodes 61 to 6m composed of tin oxide (SnO2 ) are formed on one wall part 3, and similar vertical electrodes 71 to 7n are formed on the other wall part 4. A m×n matrix consisting of plural addressable display elements is formed with a group of (m) horizontal electrodes and a group of (n) vertical electrodes.</p> |
