<p>Respiratory gas is supplied to a patient by means of a plurality of consecutive gas pulses. In order to be able to adapt the supply of respiratory gas to the condition of a patient the pulses are supplied in a plurality of series of gas pulses with the pulses in each series supplied at a frequency greater than 600 pulses per minute and with each series of pulses spaced apart from the preceding and succeeding phases.
