A liquid applicator includes an elongated hollow body (10) having opposed first and second open ends (18, 20) in fluid communication with one another, and a tip (12) attached to the first open end (18) and including a porous material. A closed, frangible ampul (16) is supported within the second open end (20) of the body and contains a liquid to be dispensed. A cap (14) is provided at the second open end (20) of the body, which is movable axially relative to the body between a storage position and a use position in order to fracture the ampul (16). However, the cap (14) is retained on the body and locked against movement from either of the storage or use positions toward the second open end of the body.
