Compact deployable acoustic sensor and method for sensing targets.

The compact deployable sensor has a housing with several transducers carried inside it. The transducers are randomly distributed within a predefined area surrounding the housing. The transducers are conductively connected to the housing and each generates an analogue output signal indicative of the acoustic energy received from a target. A self-survey is electrically connected to the transducers for determining the position of the transducers relative to the housing. A computer is electrically connected to the transducers for analysing acoustic energy received by the transducers.
