The method optimizes the image of braun tube by adjusting the gap (PMQ value) between the panel and the shadow mask with a device for controlling the height of the frame holder of a mask-frame welder. The device consists of a mask-frame welder (6) with a frame holder (7) and a lower mold (8) holding a shadow mask, a controller (1) with a gauge (5) having an operating rod (5a), a device (10) controlling the frame holder, and a controller which is fixed to the frame holder by a holder pin(9).
