METHOD FOR PREPARING POROUS CARBON MATERIAL, POROUS CARBON MATERIAL AND ELECTRICAL DOUBLE LAYER CAPACITOR USING THE SAME

A method for preparing a porous carbon material, which comprises activating a carbon material of soft carbon type with an alkaline solution in the presence of a carboxylic ion and at least one metal ion selected from among an iron ion, a cobalt ion, a manganese ion and a nickel ion; a porous carbon material having a surface area per volume of 1000 m<2>/cm<3> or more prepared by the method; and an electrical double layer capacitor having polarizing electrodes comprising the porous carbon material, which is compact and has a large capacity. The method allows the commercial production of the above porous carbon material in high yield and at a low cost. The porous carbon material can be packed with a high density, and thus can yield a polarizing electrode having a significantly large electrostatic capacity per volume.
