Process for cleaning up raw water contaminated by strippable pollutants, in particular hydrocarbons, and plant for carrying out the process

In the process for cleaning up contaminated raw water, a reactor is employed which has an outer reactor vessel and a central gas-introduction tube for an oxygen-containing treatment gas. The clean up is a biological clean up. In the annular space between reactor vessel and gas-introduction compartment there is arranged a fixed bed. The reactor is charged with a preset volume of the raw water to be cleaned up. The treatment gas is introduced from below into the gas-introduction pipe and drives the water to be cleaned up in circulation and/or moves in circulation together with the water to be cleaned up. The treatment gas is continuously fed in dependence on the oxygen requirement. The circulation is maintained until the biodegradation of the pollutants has taken place as far as a preset degree of clean up. The clean water is then removed via a sedimentation apparatus from which excess sludge is taken off. A plant for carrying out the process is also specified.
