The method according to the invention for riveting a thick rigid solid component 1, particularly a plate, onto a support 2, particularly a fabric and more particularly a garment material, is characterised in that it consists in producing, over a part of the thickness of the component 1, at least one cavity 6 opening out on a face 4 of the component, then in deforming the linking edge of the said cavity 6 with the said face 4 in order to fold it down towards the inside of the cavity 6 so as to create a strangulation or constriction lip bordering the cavity, while reducing the area of the entry cross-section thereof for receiving an immobilising the point 20 of a rivet 21 in the cavity 6. <IMAGE>
