PURPOSE: To remove the imprecisenes of digital image formation and artifacts. CONSTITUTION: The positional shift of horizontally arrayed image formation devices 65 is corrected to conceal the joint between images. Thereby a controller 80 increases/decreases a normal interval between adjacent discharged image spots along an image formation direction. Namely image formation is started from the image formation device 65 having maximum distortion in a suitable array and then at least one vertical image formation column along the image formation direction is repeated as fine adjustment to generate intential horizontal overlap between adjacent columns.
