In a filter element which can be inserted into a filter housing so as to seal and which is made of a filter web material arranged in a plate shape folded in a zigzag shape having frames covering the longitudinal and transverse edges so as to seal, fabrication is to be simplified. The solution comprises forming the frame by a U-shaped strip of synthetic nonwoven web which surrounds the folded filter web material along its longitudinal and transverse edges and the two arms of which frame are joined by welding to the end regions of the folded filter web material.
