A hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive compsn. comprises (a) 5-50 wt.% hydroxypropyl cellulose; (b) up to 30 wt.% of a styrene block copolymer; (c) 5-40 wt.% plasticiser, 85 wt.% of which may be a water insoluble plasticiser; (d) 20-70 wt.% tackifying resin; and (e) 0-3 wt.% stabiliser. Also claimed is a hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive which loses tack when immersed in water comprising (a) 10-50 wt.% hydroxypropyl cellulose, (b) up to 30 wt.% styrene block copolymer, (c) 5-40 wt.% plasticiser, 85% of which may be a water insoluble plasticiser, (d) 20-70 wt.% tackifying resin; and (e) 0-3 wt.% stabiliser.
