The invention relates to a door and window stop with an assignable child-proof device which is fastened above the door and door frame and which has a lever located between door and door frame and retains the door in the desired open position. The stop possesses a stop housing (1), which is fastened to the door frame (14), and a lever (5) which is connected at one end to the door (10) and at its other end to a sliding piece (8) located in the stop housing (1) and having a roller (6) and coupling pin (7). Drillholes are arranged in the stop housing (1) for the engagement of the coupling pins (7). Located underneath the sliding piece (8) is a telescopic rod (3) which is arranged above the door frame (14) and which is rigidly connected, via the actuating rod (12) functioning as a release element and having a guide part (13) and bearing angle (11), to a rotatably mounted lifting rail (2) matching the sliding piece (8). To obtain a child-proof device, the guide part (13) can consist of a housing (15), to which a lever-type cylinder lock (16) is attached, the actuating rod (12) having a catch notch which matches with the wall of the housing (15). <IMAGE>
