PURPOSE: To provide a thin film magnetic head with at least one magnetic flux guide and a reluctance element and to provide the reluctance element on a surface which is accurately defined about its flatness and structure. CONSTITUTION: A main layer 5 of non-magnetic materials is provided on a supporting body 1, and on the layer 5, recessed parts are formed by removing the material on its far side from the body 1. The recessed parts are filled with soft magnetic materials to form magnetic flux guides 17a and 17b. After that, the main layer 5 having the filled recessed parts is mechanically and chemically ground and a main surface 19 is formed. Then, the main surface 19 is provided with a layer of reluctance materials and a reluctance element 23 is formed from this layer. |
